The Basemesh

It's been crazy at work and home but was finally able to work on the basemesh. I used the box modeling technique to create the model. The body and legs were separate models that I then welded together. I find that doing it that way is helpful. I'm pretty happy with it. I may rework the face/head area. The bullfrog reference I have shows the snout area to be a little longer so I may revisit it before I begin to sculpt in ZBrush. I may also rework the back foot area. But other than that, I am ready to head over to ZBrush. Right now it's at 1,764 polygons but if I rework it that will change.

Concept for my next scene

This is just a really quick Photoshop concept of the next scene I'm going to sculpt. It's a bunch of small frogs gathered around an iPhone that is playing a nature movie. I love my iPhone and have always wanted to sculpt a frog so I'm going to combine them together for this scene.
I'm not going to spend time on concept sketches. I have already found some frog pictures and my iPhone for reference. I'll start the iPhone first, get that modeled in Lightwave, then focus most of my attention on sculpting the frog. The frog will be blocked-in in Lightwave and details will be sculpted in ZBrush.

The first post of many to come
I'm currently the Web Development Coordinator for a community newspaper publisher. I have been working hard on the redesign of our website and to bring dynamic content to our users. It has been a lot of work but it's worth it. Besides web design, I love digital sculpting and 3D animation. It has been a hobby of mine since college. I took a few classes and fell in love with it. Because of my busy schedule and hectic personal life, I haven't worked on a sculpting project in a while.
I will be posting my progress here and hopefully this will push me to do something every day. I plan on sculpting a half hour or so a day and maybe eight hours total over the weekend. I'll start off with some animals and characters, then create some scenes. This is something I love and need to get back into.
Check back to see my progress.
